Liyen ChongArtist, Auckland, New Zealand.Coming from Malaysia as a teenager, I had to create a new personality to function in a New Zealand context. I started making hair embroideries in late 2004. Hair is rich with cultural connotations and meaning, and it gave me an interesting way of questioning culture. When people realise the artwork is made of hair, they just have to look again. In A Humid Day, I took things that were familiar to people and then questioned them by placing my own texts. The constant mantra I had while I was collecting material for the project was to define the question about art and culture, and define it again and define it again…and I came up with all these notes, which subverted the original context, but also had a playful kind of humour with it. And what about Lundia? Yes, I love Lundia Shelving, it's natural and reliable, we've got lots, some second hand, some is recycled (saved from the rubbish) and we did buy a new set once too. I don't mind investing in products that will stand the test of time. Liyen Chong is represented in Auckland by Melanie Roger Gallery, Herne Bay. |

Sarah MartinPrincipal, Stonefields Primary School, Auckland, New Zealand.Stonefields School is a new Auckland school, which focuses on providing a stimulating modern learning environment for learners to thrive in. The chance to learn in an environment designed specifically to meet the needs of 21st century learners is an exciting opportunity. Careful consideration, time and energy went into deciding on the furnishings for Stonefields School. We did lots of reading and investigating around future School environments. We were also fortunate to visit Schools both in NZ and Australia to help form a list of furniture and environmental requirements. Above all we sought quality product that will last; Products which look great, are practical, ergonomic and which meet the demands and needs of our next generation. We like the solid and natural characteristics of lundia product, they stepped outside the square to provide the innovative X4 teacher's workstation as well as meeting all our other criteria. For us, Lundia was a natural choice. |
